Cat Shelters & Charities

One by One Cat Rescue is where I got my beautiful tortie, Ember, over 26 years ago. I drove over an hour to get her, because she was that awesome. She was adopted by a young couple who split up. The female part of the couple took it out on the cat because she was a daddy's cat. She was skittish and hiding in a closet when the folks came back to get her. She was a two time loser that was a wonderful cat who kept me from eating a bullet more than once. If you have and extra few bucks please throw a buck or two their way. If you're local to the shelter please lend them a hand by volunteering.

Euclid Pet Pals is another wonderful and friendly shelter. I got my wonderful tortie Zanya from them. She came home with me a snowy spring day. Give them a visit and check out their wish list for items that they need.

Ohio Paws with Purpose distributes cat and dog food and supplies as a pet food pantry. They also help cover costs of veterinary bills. Their mission is to try to keep pets at home instead of having them be surrendered because of financial difficulties.

Her videos are less like a nature show that you are used to seeing and more like a friend that's obsessed with her field of study (which is a good thing). You can really tell that she enjoys teaching.

How We Domesticated Cats (Twice) PBS Eons, so you know it's not bullshit. A 9,500-year-old burial in Cyprus represents some of the oldest known evidence of human/cat companionships anywhere in the world. But when did this close relationship between humans and cats start? And how did humans help cats take over the world?

History and Housecats, a tale of Civilization From the History Guy. When talking about technological advances in human history, few are as important to sea-faring trade (and modern social media) as the domestication of 'felis catus.' The History Guy remembers the forgotten history of house cats, who may be more important to civilization than you ever imagined.

Animal Shelters: A History From the History Guy. Back in 2021 we brought two kittens, Pocky and Strudel, into our home courtesy the St. Clair County Animal Adoption Center in Belleville Illinois. This leads to the question, when did such shelters originate?
